Rider University Hillel provides students with the opportunities to become part of a welcoming community while maintaining and strengthening a connection to their Jewish heritage. Hillel meets at least once a week and provides many religious, social and cultural programs throughout the semester. Traditional religious programs, celebrations, and social and cultural include: Shabbat dinner and services Special holiday meals such as dinner in the Sukkah, Passover Seder, Yom Kippur break-the fast Chanukah party, Campus-wide Purim carnival. Kristallnacht and Yom Hoshoah programs sponsored by the Julius and Dorothy Koppelman Holocaust/Genocide Resource Center located on Rider's campus. Bagel brunches Movies (e.g. One Survivors Story and Paper Clips) , Challah baking, ice cream socials, Jewish comedians Trips: Sometimes in coordination with students from other area Hillels, Rider students take trips to important destinations such as the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Tzedakah is a very important value for our Hillel. Every year we collect clothes, prepare food and feed the homeless in Manhattan as well as conduct a variety of fundraising and social action activities. Students are most proud of their bone marrow drive which collected 100 samples. Services: Some students attend the conservative synagogue, just across the street from our campus. The rabbi serves as Hillel's religious leader and provides opportunities for students to teach Hebrew school or work with their youth group. The local Chabad also has a presence on campus.
