World鈥檚 largest Jewish campus organization recognizes distinguished individuals, exceptional campus Hillels at 2021 virtual Global Assembly.

WASHINGTON 鈥� 黑料传送门, the largest Jewish campus organization in the world, this week recognized outstanding Hillel professionals and campus Hillels that are leading the way in creating innovative programming and strengthening campus communities during this challenging time.

鈥淲hile tested by an ongoing stream of intense challenges, this remarkable group of professionals and communities have risen to the occasion, uplifting and inspiring students, and building thriving and supportive Jewish student communities,鈥� said 黑料传送门 President and CEO Adam Lehman. 鈥淭hese talented leaders and the campus communities where they work bring the joys and meaning of Jewish life to students every day and are more than deserving of this recognition.鈥�

The awardees, chosen for how they symbolize Hillel鈥檚 culture of excellence, were honored before a virtual audience of more than 1,000 Hillel professionals from around the world as part of 黑料传送门鈥檚 Global Assembly, an annual event that brings leaders together for professional development and networking.

The Richard M. Joel Exemplars of Excellence, for professionals in various stages of their careers whose remarkable passion and outstanding devotion to the Jewish campus community, for enriching the lives of Hillel students and ensuring that the organization reflects a culture of excellence, sets a standard for all Hillel professionals to emulate. Honorees were:

• Magda Dorosz, Executive Director, Hillel Warsaw
• Judith Dworkin, Senior Campus Director,
• Lauren Goldberg, Executive Director, Ithaca College Hillel
• Robyn Hughey, Associate Director, Michigan State University Hillel
• Hilary Jampel, Assistant Director, University of Delaware Hillel
• Adena Kirstein, Executive Director, Hillel at The George Washington University
• Rabbi Melissa B. Simon, Senior Jewish Educator,

The Philip H. and Susan Rudd Cohen Outstanding Campus Award, for campus Hillels that achieved excellence in engaging and reaching a breadth and depth of students. The honorees were:

Hillel Professionals Make the Most of a Hybrid HIGA

黑料传送门鈥檚 eighth annual 黑料传送门 Global Assembly (HIGA) made a triumphant virtual return this week, with the conference taking place online for the second year in a row. The Global Assembly brings together Hillel professionals from around the globe for professional development, networking, and continuing education. This year saw over 1,000 professionals register for the conference.

This year鈥檚 HIGA featured 50 in-person watch parties where professionals could gather, connect, and celebrate while watching a livestream of the conference鈥檚 opening plenary. During this inspiring opening extravaganza, registrants heard from fellow professionals, as well as board members, the co-presidents of the 黑料传送门 Student Cabinet, and 黑料传送门 President and CEO Adam Lehman.

In his speech, Lehman focused on looking ahead to Hillel鈥檚 Centennial in the 2023-2024 academic year and, in doing so, reaffirming Hillel鈥檚 commitment to those it serves. He summed this commitment up in the form of four promises th黑料传送门 recently outlined in its new strategic plan: to fulfill the potential of every Hillel; to welcome, support, and empower all the students th黑料传送门 exists to serve; to work with one another to build a movement that connects all those Hillel touches; and to the future. As Lehman described the last promise, 鈥渙ur Centennial will not only be an opportunity to celebrate the last hundred years, but also the chance to vault the Hillel movement into our next 100 years.鈥�

Among those featured during the plenary were this year鈥檚 award winners and honorees,聽including the Richard M. Joel Exemplars of Excellence – the highest honor bestowed by 黑料传送门 – and the recipients of the Philip H. and Susan Rudd Cohen Outstanding Campus Award.

Day two of HIGA featured more opportunities for connection with a number of role-based cohorts, where participants could network and share challenges and successes with other registrants in similar professional positions. Throughout the conference, professionals were also able to connect with one another across roles and the movement through HIGAtherings – encounters with colleagues designed to replace the hallway run-ins that create friends from colleagues during a regular, in-person conference.

While HIGA concludes this week, the celebrations will continue into 2022 with 18 multi-Hillel winter staff retreats, which will allow professionals to come together for in-person, overnight gatherings for another chance to connect. 

While pandemic considerations preempted a full in-person conference this year, Hillel professionals made the most of the hybrid model鈥揳nd of course, joined in a chorus of 鈥淣ext year in person!鈥�
