Florida Hillels have found an incredibly successful 鈥 and delicious 鈥 way to counter antisemitism on college campuses. 鈥淪pread Cream Cheese, Not Hate,鈥 which originated at University of Florida Hillel in 2020, spreads awareness about antisemitism. The event is simple: Sign a petition against antisemitism and receive a fresh bagel and T-shirt.
College and university presidents and diversity officers from across North America learned best practices and new tactics to improve the campus climate for Jewish students this week at the University Presidents Summit on Campus Antisemitism.
College and university presidents from across the United States will come together on April 11-12 for a summit on the unprecedented increase in antisemitic activity and the marginalization of Jewish students on campus. The summit is being presented by 黑料传送门 and American Jewish Committee (AJC), in collaboration with the American Council on Education (ACE).
鈥淚n February, I volunteered at 鈥楽pread Cream Cheese, Not Hate鈥, a campus event organized by Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach to raise awareness about antisemitism and other forms of hate. Alongside Hillel students and professionals, I asked members of our community to sign a pledge to combat antisemitism, and in return, gave out fresh bagels and cream cheese.
Jewish leaders at UC Berkeley have created a comprehensive toolbox for students to learn about antisemitism at Berkeley and beyond. The Antisemitism Education Initiative, launched in the late spring of 2019, aims to holistically combat antisemitism through trainings, speakers, panels, and the notable 11-minute video, 鈥淎ntisemitism in Our Midst: Past and Present.鈥
I was born in Mexico City into a Jewish family that included my parents and grandparents. For my entire life, I鈥檝e had a Jewish support system in Mexico, not only with my family, but with the Jewish community there.

But I always remind them that it鈥檚 an uphill battle and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. You can make significant progress for the future because of the experiences you鈥檝e faced.
I was a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh on October 27, 2018, the day of the Pittsburgh synagogues shooting that took the lives of 11 Jewish people. Now, as a senior, not a day passes where I do not wear my necklace, over my shirt, where everyone can see it. I am proud to be Jewish and I am proud to #OwnMyStar.
What I saw at the No Fear Rally that I hope to take into my role in the Student Cabinet this next year is that, first and foremost, students need resources and need to know that people in high-up places and all over the world are supporting them.
When I read about [Jewish] history, when I talk to different people who have been through so many different persecutions, it鈥檚 just so amazing to me that we鈥檙e still here. We are such a tiny minority, but we鈥檙e so resilient and so strong.
